We work with Congolese youth of refugee/immigrant backgrounds, who find themselves tackling challenges when navigating the American school system with multi-cultural and multi-lingual backgrounds. We have found that the lack of understanding the American school system, low English skills and cultural barriers often result in our youth's inability to advocate for themselves, their educational or economic goals and communities at large.
Congolese Youth Connect is working hard to change this reality - One individual at a time.
Serve the community.
Educate the this generation.
Provide EQUITABLE solutions and opportunities.
WHAT WE DO
This CYC educational program provides equitable solutions and opportunities for high school students by assisting and supporting students in their high school journey and through college preparation.
The program's goal is to equip Congolese high school students in the Greater Des Moines Area with the tools/resources needed to succeed in secondary school and beyond. We achieve this by providing workshop sessions and trainings on FAFSA, College Prep: ACTs, SATs, College entrance essays, etc.
Visiting campus, is an important of the college experience. It allows the individual to experience the school, the people who are there, and the actual learning environment on campus. We provide campus visits because it helps our youth visualize their existence on those campus, letting them know that it is a space they belong in too.
